AS SINGAPORE does not have a government- controlled accreditation board to screen degrees awarded by overseas universities and colleges, parents here face a lot of difficulties in choosing the right foreign institutions for their children.
Currently, they have to depend on hearsay and friends' advice.
I am sure the Government is fully aware that educating a child in a foreign university is three or four times more expensive than at one of the local universities.
If there is a proper government-controlled accreditation board to monitor and screen foreign degrees, parents would be able to check with the board before selecting the right overseas universities for their children.
